A simple DIY to see if it makes a difference with the petrol smell.
I'm now convinced it is just fumes in the oil I can smell

Is there a way to check the old PCV valve, when it is off the car?

They say is you shake the valve and it rattles it's ok but this is not a trusted way of checking.

A PCV is a simple one way valve. It has a spring inside that only allows the valve to open, a gentle amount of air in one direction will open, whereas in the other direction it should remain shut.

I have heard that as well.
I've never had to change one thou. Maybe it's because most of my driving is motorway miles. Last car (16 years old) still had the original exhaust on it.

Does your old valve seem faulty?

What mainly causes them to stop working?
