Done a search but can't find any specific details on cleaning the throttle body. Seems to be two schools of thought on t'internet; one, you can open the butterfly valve manually as opposed to two, you can't and you need to open the throttle with the accelerator. Not sure :Ermm:

Why can't you open it manually ?

I don't know, it's just from reading what people have done it seems there's two schools of thought.

Had a look in the throttle body and there was plenty of build-up around the butterfly valve. Got in and in gave it a good clean, really needs taking off to do properly but don't have time. Cleaned the PCV too. Don't know if it's helped with my other problem but feels much better to drive and quieter.

Probably the best job I've done on the car! just feels better to drive and the engine is considerably quieter. Doing the two jobs together means I'm not sure which has had the biggest effect but I suspect the noise reduction is down to cleaning the PCV valve.

If the car reading is to be believed then it's improved but I've just put a full tank in so I'll have a better idea when I've used that.

I was gonna do this when I thought I had a problem with the idle control valve, but it turned out to not be a problem, so left well alone.

I cleaned my throttle body, map sensor and MAF sensors made car run smoother and I'm pretty sure increased MPG

I wondered about the MAF sensor but always though it's best avoided unless there's a problem. What did you use to clean it. Didn't even think about the MAP sensor to be honest.
