ModelModel CodeYear ModelCivic 5 doorFK1, FK2, FK3ALLCR-VRE5, RE7ALLCR-V i-DTECRE6ALLJazzGG5, GG6ALLSymptom White stain, stained appearance or clear coat swelling can be visible in the paint surface after removing protective foam or wrap. This symptom may be present on any body panel that has white protective wrap. See examples below: White stain on rear bumper corners. White stain on metal panels. White Stain on front bumper cover. Ligther shadows on panels. White Staining on Hood. White Stain on Roof Examples of Clear Coat Swelling Raised area's on panels , pictures also shows white stain. Clear coat swelling on Roof Panel Clear Coat Swelling on Bonnet Panel Cause The visible staining is caused by trapped water/moisture permeating into the paint clear coat surface when the wrap film protection or foam protector is applied. This is a natural phenomenon that occurs with protective wrap during certain atmospheric conditions. This condition should naturally recover but in some circumstances it is necessary to assist recovery by applying heat from a hot air gun or infra red lamp. This trapped water will permeate the clearcoat if it is not completely cured. It will remain suspended in the clearcoat surface giving a milky white or raised clear appearance (clear coat swelling) after protective wrap is removed. Repair Method • Removal of the stain is not possible using normal polishing or cleaning methods. • Parking the vehicle in a warm environment or direct sunlight will often be sufficient for the stain to disappear. • If this is not possible then gently warm the area using a side to side motion with a heat gun (A) or Infra red lamp (B) until the stain is no longer visible. • Depending on the size of the issue, it may take several attempts to remove Stain or Clear Coat Swelling . Care point : Do not allow panel temperature to reach in excess of 80 degrees Celsius or paint blistering can occur. Only in extreme circumstances this repair method may not be effective and therefore repainting may be considered. The following images show an example of moisture staining before and after repair 1. Wrap Film Protection Area 2. Paint discolouration before heat application: 3.Paint surface after heat application: This TSB does not apply to all VIN with JHMC in their starting VINS.
